Moving to a new city or country is an exciting step but can also be very challenging: you are in a new environment with many new and unfamiliar people. If you would like to meet new people in the city of Rotterdam through sports, rowing at Roeivereniging Rijnmond is a perfect option!
The rowing club is one of the cosiest clubs in Rotterdam, located on the river De Rotte in Rotterdam. Roeivereniging Rijnmond has a small - but growing - group of internationals. Many of the Dutch rowers don't mind speaking English (or helping you practise Dutch). If you are a novice rower, lessons may be given in English. This depends heavily on the instructors who offer, so make sure you ask about it. Keep in mind that it is necessary to learn the rowing commands in Dutch. Everything else can be done in English, even the exam!
After passing this course, you can join walk-in rowing independently (or set up a team). Whatever your wishes, you should be able to find a team that suits you: rowing three times a week or once a month, competitive rowing or rowing to clear your head.
The basic rowing course lasts about 20 weeks, and weekly lessons are on Saturdays (1pm) or Sundays (9am). During the lessons, you will learn to row and steer.
If you are already an experienced rower, you can skip the introductory course if necessary. After the trial lesson, the Rowing Commissioner will suggest a personalized course. Please let us know in your e-mail if you already have (some) rowing experience.
